OVERVIEW
| Pier Pharmaceuticals (formerly known as SteadySleep Rx Company) is a clinical stage pharmaceutical company developing a pharmacologic treatment for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). There are currently no FDA approved drugs in the US market for OSA. The mainstay of treatment for OSA is positive airway pressure (PAP or CPAP) machinery which has many shortcomings including high rates of non-compliance/non-persistence of between 30-60%, inadequate nightly usage patterns, awkward and cumbersome machinery components, costly replacement parts, etc. In many cases, patients either never attempt to even use their CPAP device due to its complexity, bothersome side effects or the stigma attached to it or they use it sub-optimally during the nighttime sleep period. We believe that a pharmacologic agent approved for use in OSA fulfills a major unmet need in the marketplace and would prove to be a valuable option in the armamentarium of prescribers who treat patients suffering from OSA. |
